Solar Photo Voltaic Panels Installation

Here at Connect Electric we like to provide a dedicated and personal service to our clients with much of our work being referrals from our happy customers. Our solar panels installation is often done by our in house team with in 1 day with no mess to your home. Occasionally it may last 2 days dependent on the access of the
installation. There will be no disruption to your property. We will instruct our specialist local scaffolding contractor to erect a safe working platform on your property, only on the side of the array. They will be instructed to remove the scaffolding immediately after solar panels installation is complete. After a structural
survey has confirmed adequacy of your roof, panels are mounted in parallel via special light weight anchors which are attached to your roof trusses. The roof trusses carry the weight not the tiles. The inverter will be installed in the agreed location usually the loft. A connecting cable will be run neatly down
the outside of your property in a neat conduit and connect to your incoming supply where we will install your generation meter. We will assist in the completion of your feed in tariff application in order for you to receive your benefit as soon as possible. All you need to do is sit back and relax.

Your Questions Answered

Where are the panels installed?
Solar panels can be installed on any roof usually the most southerly facing. Each roof is specifically calculated to produce its unique generation projection estimates.
Feed In tariff. What's the catch?
So you want to know what the catch is? There isn’t one. The government has got targets to meet to comply with European agreements. 15% of our electricity must come from renewable sources by 2020. UK can be energy self-sufficient. We need to lower our carbon emissions to meet our climate change targets. The feed in Tariff is a Government incentive to help achieve these goals.
They have cut the Feed in Tariff – Is it worth installing now?
Absolutely. The media have been good to report that the tariff has been cut. Most people do not realise that the cost of an installation has reduced by 2 thirds. An installation costing £15,000 in 2009 will cost around £5000 today and have a higher return on investment.
What happens if I move?
The system is inherited by the new owner. They buy a house that generates them an annual income of say £800 a year and protects them against future rises in electricity costs. This will add to the value of your house. It is suggested it could increase the value by 6%. (source – The Guardian).
Carbon foot print?
A typical home PV system could save around 1200 kg of carbon dioxide per year – around 30 tonnes over its lifetime! (Source department of energy and climate change).
How long is the installation?
Normally takes about 1 maybe 2 days, with scaffold being erected on the face where the panels will be installed. Our team is courteous and professional and will aim to work with minimal disruption.
How many panels need to be installed?
This all depends on the size of the system you have chosen and the amount of roof space required. A 2 kW system for example will require about 14m2 of roof space. The maximum on a domestic is generally 4 kW.
Do I need planning permission and is maintenance required?
Changes to permitted development rights for renewable technologies introduced on 6th April 2008 and 12th March 2009 respectively have lifted the requirements for planning permission for most domestic Microgeneration technologies. In domestic properties, as long as panels protrude no more then 200mm when installed and are not in a heritage conservation area. (Source – Energy Saving Trust). Solar Panels are completely silent and generally maintenance free. We recommend an annual check and clean of the panels to ensure optimum efficiency. Performance warranty of the panels is 25 years.

Besides significantly reducing your carbon foot print you will benefit financially in 3 ways:

Solar PV Generation: Your FiT provider will pay you for every unit you generate regardless whether you use the energy or sell it back to the grid. This is your incentive to have a renewable system installed and help the Government reduces the countries carbon emissions. The payments are known as the Feed in Tariff and will be paid for 20 years. They will rise with inflation and are completely tax free.

Export or Sell Back To The Grid: You will be able to sell unused energy back to the grid. It is deemed that while most solar households are at work, their systems will export back to the grid.

Savings On Your Current Electricity Bill: Every unit of electricity you generate from you solar PV system means one less unit you will need to buy from your current energy supplier. Once you have a solar PV system, it is a good idea to change slightly when you use items like your washing machine and dish washer etc. Make sure these go on when your generating your own electricity. Remember solar PV does not work at night.
